Pass Me The Who-Hooch

Good morning! I think the shaking has finally subsided enough for me to type rationally about my latest Big G inspired trauma. (Or at least as rational as I ever get…).
Last night I decided to “update” my G+ page, since it seems to be picking up traffic as people (myself included) become more and more frustrated with the ever-changing Facebook. So…away to the photo albums I went.
.
I was watching TV with The Girl and “cleaning up” the mess of pictures that I wasn’t even sure how in Holy Hades they’d gotten there. It looked like every time I’d ever added a picture to my blog, it’d created a folder for it. Hmmm…
.
Here’s where the trauma started. There were times in my feud with B—— that I’d add and remove a picture four or five times in my attempts to get it just where I wanted. (And yes, I usually LOST these battles. Ah, but the war isn’t over yet my friends.) EVERY TIME I added that picture, Big G placed a copy in my G+ folder.
.

So I did what any mere mortal would do. I deleted it. Or at least four of the five copies. Makes sense, right?
.
After deleting over 100 (OVER 100!!!!)
photos, most of which were duplicates, I clicked over to look at comments and…GONE! My graphics were GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Totally Random Shuffle had no Banner. Life Your Way was missing the graphics on the sides, including my avatar. Emo Squirel was missing half the comics, as was ToRanShuf. Poof. GONE!!!
.
Please pardon my excessive use of exclamation points, but there’s no symbol to denote *curled in fetal ball while whimpering and drooling on self and mumbling repeatedly, “GONE”* Which is what I pretty much was.
.
I currently have no idea what all is missing. Well, all the award graphics are because I figured I didn’t need to brag on my G+ page. I haven’t had the stomach to start sorting through over 400 posts to see what’s there and what’s simply a mild mannered, gray circle containing a minus sign.

.
In the long run, I’m lucky. I saved all the graphics to my computer (somewhere on here…) so it’s only a time and headache issue. Val Vucich Curtis of Bonbon Break Magazine was awesome enough to look into the problem after I turned to the women of said magazine for virtual hugs and shots of tequila. (Thanks again Ladies!)
.
She found post after post of folks who had made the same error as myself, but had stored all their graphics and photos on Picasa (another Big G run site). Those poor souls didn’t just erase the pictorial history of their blogs, but lost the pictures themselves. Yep, no going through and re-loading graphics…just GONE! *shudder and cringe*
.
So, the moral of the story here is…OK, there’s a couple morals:
#1- I’m a moron who probably wasn’t paying close enough attention to what she was doing because she was watching American Dad with the Offspring. And now I shall pay the price with at least a week’s worth of work to attempt to repair the damage. *hangs head in shame*
#2- The Big G has some serious glissues in the way they link ALL their sites together! I mean, you erase from an album you didn’t even create (or know existed) and you erase it from ALL their sites? W!-T!-F!?! Proprietary much?
.
So umm, yeah. It’s always a great idea to read the REALLY fine print and if you’re confused it might be a better plan to look for the “Lock” button that will keep the stuff on “your eyes only” status instead of deleting. *walks off into the Sunrise grumbling like the Grinch after a long night on the town shooting doubles of Who-Hooch*
